Jane Sutton BSc (Hons) MEd (Dist)

About Us

Jane Sutton has 15 years experience working in a local authority as School Places Officer, Reintegration Officer and Education Welfare Officer. During that time she took an active roll in hundreds of school admission appeals, governor’s exclusion meetings and exclusion appeal hearings.

Jane has a wealth of experience and skills in educational policies, procedures and legislation. Over the years she has worked with schools, parents and other agencies, in particular specialising in the following areas:

  • Reintegrating excluded pupils
  • Exclusion meetings and appeal hearings
  • School Admissions Appeals
  • Admission of Children in Care and children with Special Educational Needs (SENs)
  • Supporting teenage pregnant school girls in education
  • School attendance and registration issues
  • Children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD)

Jane has a BSc (Hons) in Combined Studies (Psychology, Sociology, and Education Studies), an MEd (Distinction) in Special Educational Needs (Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties) and has undertaken regular specialist training and development in exclusions and school admissions appeals.

In 2001, Jane was invited to join a team of researchers at The University of Birmingham to assist in a longitudinal study of young people permanently excluded from school. The study was funded by the DFES and the published paper can be viewed here.
